30.4.23 Leftover(s) @ The Victoria, Dalston
This was my first time meeting Tash (TASHISBORED) and Jude Dulake, who were the new drummer and bassist in Leftover(s). Tash was wearing a shirt she had crocheted herself and Jude was wearing his old school uniform. I assumed they were the same age. They decidedly are not.
I credit this gig as my entry point into the South London music scene, although Dalston is technically East. East is owned by South somehow. I remember hanging out in the green room with the band, randomly taking this series of photos of them. They really got into the spirit of the impromptu photo session right away. It was the most fun I’d had in a long time.
Tash has since described our first time meeting by saying that I just introduced myself and then immediately stuck a camera in her face and that was it. Sounds about right to me. We’ve been friends ever since.
On the docket for that week:
Potential executive producer meeting, band rehearsal for a project that never materialized, Peter Doherty at The Albert Hall, documentary premiere, off to Margate for prep work.
Off to Cannes May 14th for the festival and to pitch The Weather Just Got Sexy.
I gave Tash my lipstick so that she could add to the graffiti. I think she was pretty happy about this.
Niamh had this melodica that she used to use, but it was stolen later that night I believe. It was a fantastic thing.
I think Jude’s Docs have finally died, but at this point they were still in tact. In August, the boot actually detached from the sole and he just kept wearing them. How he can drum like that is beyond me.
I had the band pose with Niamh’s briefcase full of guitar pedals, which I still think is the best way to carry them.
